The Blacksburg-Christiansburg-Radford metropolitan statistical area is one of the safest places to live in America, according to Farmers Insurance. The Los Angeles-based insurance company recently ranked the area No. 7 on its list of the Top 20 Most Secure Small Cities of 2013.

Blacksburg Metro Area Ranked No. 21 Best-Performing Small City in U.S.

The Milken Institute has ranked the Blacksburg-Christiansburg-Radford metro area the No. 21 Best-Performing Small City of 2013. The annual listing assess how well 179 small U.S. metros are creating and sustaining jobs and economic growth. The Blacksburg-Christiansburg-Radford metro area rose eleven spots on the 2013 list and was the highest ranking small metro in Virginia: Winchester (40), Danville (81), Charlottesville (89), Harrisonburg (106), and Lynchburg (129).

Blacksburg Metro Area Named a Top 10 College Town

The Blacksburg-Christiansburg-Radford metropolitan statistical area (MSA) is one of the best college destinations in the country, according to the American Institute for Economic Research's (AIER) College Destinations Index for 2013-2014. Among MSAs with populations less than 250,000, AIER ranked the area the No. 8 College Town in the nation based on its overall economic and academic environment, quality of life and employment opportunities.
