Angel’s Rest

While this route is a tough hike on the AT, the rewards at Angel’s Rest are well worthwhile. You must endure a 1.5-mile, 1,650-ft. climb before you can sprawl over a boulder enjoying the view of the New River below.

Appalachian Trail

The Appalachian Trail is one of the longest continuously marked footpaths in the world, running from Georgia to Maine and measuring roughly 2,180 miles in length. The Trail goes through nearby Giles County, which is adjacent to Montgomery County.

Bald Knob

Bald Knob Trail is a 0.8 mile out and back trail located near Newport, Virginia that features a great forest setting. The trail is rated as moderate and primarily used for hiking, walking, and nature trips.

Bottom Creek Gorge Preserve

Bottom Creek is a mountain stream that forms a stair-step series of waterfalls commonly referred to as the “kettles.” Bottom Creek is one of the highest waterfalls in the state of Virginia and boasts a 200 foot high waterfall.

Cascades National Rec Trail

This is a highly scenic 4-mile round-trip trail. The trail is highlighted by a 66-foot waterfall within Jefferson National Forest. Hike is low to moderate in difficulty. The picnicking area is at the beginning of the trail and includes restrooms. Trout fishing is common in Little Stony Creek alongside the trail.

Deerfield Trail

The Deerfield Trail starts at the intersection of Toms Creek Road and Deerfield Drive. It is a 7/10-mile trail. The trail is located within a beautiful 24-acre park, perfect for exploring.

Dragon’s Tooth is a short, tough hike that is a rock monolith that stands out on it’s own at the top of Cove Mountain.

Ellett Valley Recreational Area

From South Main Street take Ellett Road/Cedar Run Road, approximately 1 miles turn right on Jennelle Road. The park is located about 1/4 mile on the left. The Ellett Valley Recreational Area offers a bike/walking trail and benches. The trail is a vigorous one-mile loop with varied terrain. Located on 109 acres.

Huckleberry Trail

The main greenway throughout the Town of Blacksburg is the Huckleberry Trail. This is a paved trail for recreational activities including running and biking. The trail connects Blacksburg and Christiansburg. This six-mile path has various benches located along the way.
