Alexander Black House The Alexander Black House serves as a community center offering thought-provoking art and history exhibitions, a variety of engaging community programs, special accommodations for meetings and special events and elegant gardens. Historic Smithfield Built in 1774, Smithfield Plantation was the home of Revolutionary War patriot Col. William Preston and his wife. The Montgomery County Branch of Preservation Virginia restored, maintained, and opened the house to the public. Smithfield is a beautiful community gathering space and event venue, as well as a museum representing Col. Preston’s legacy.
